Super Saturday Smoothie

Saturday morning is usually pancake day, but with a child recovering from a stomach bug, I figured I’d keep it simple.  I love the Vitamix recipe book, but I find I rarely have all the ingredients for most of their smoothies.  So, I improvise a lot, and mostly just throw in whatever happens to be laying around. But, there’s a few tips that I’ve learned along the way that hopefully will be helpful.

A scoop of frozen berries makes almost any smoothie taste good (and pink)

Frozen broccoli is almost undetectable in most smoothies

Too much apple is a BAD thing- its strange that the Vitamix can pureed frozen foods, but a simple apple will make your smoothie kind of mushy…

Peel and freeze bananas for a yummy addition

If you get spinach in bulk, puree it with a little water and freeze in ice cube tray, to throw in a smoothie.  The baby spinach (from costco) tends to go bad so quickly otherwise…

SO, here’s the recipe for this morning’s breakfast

Super Saturday Smoothie

  • 1/2 c frozen berries
  • 1 c lettuce
  • 6 baby carrots
  • 1/4 apple
  • 1 c soy milk
  • 1 c ice
  • 1 scoop whey powder

This makes 1 large drinkIt was super, and Saturday, and a smoothie...

  1. Me neither – who would have thought – broccoli in a fruit smoothie! I guess that is what they are doing with all the commercial veggie shakes that taste fruity! If you have a juicer – I like adding a little beetroot. Great colour – just not too much or it is over powering!
